Lucasfilm has recently announced that the Star Wars franchise will continue with three films, including one featuring the beloved protagonist, Rey, portrayed by Daisy Ridley, Thus, ending their hiatus since the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced it at the Star Wars Celebration event held at London’s ExCeL center.
Three new Star Wars films in the works, With Daisy Ridley to return as Rey
The first Star Wars films will tell the story of the first Jedi, with James Mangold hooked to direct the film. And the second will be directed by Dave Filoni and will center around the New Republic and close out the interconnected stories being told in The Book of Boba Fett.
The third film will be set 15 years after the events of Rise of Skywalker and will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, known for her work on Ms. Marvel. The new film’s plot revolves around Rey taking on the role of a Jedi master and leading the formation of a new Jedi order. This exciting development in the story will surely please fans, who have been waiting eagerly for the next installment in the franchise.
While the title and release date of the new film has not been announced yet, other supporting actors, such as Poe and Finn, are expected to return alongside Ridley. The new movie is also set to rectify some criticisms of the previous installment, Rise of Skywalker.
