Netflix has finally released the first trailer for the long-awaited third season of Henry Cavill’s Starrer, The Witcher.
The third season will also mark his final appearance as Geralt of Rivia, as he announced a few months ago that he would no longer be playing the lead role.
Cavill was reportedly unhappy with how the writing team behind The Witcher has plainly shown a disregard for the source material. The story is steadily straying from the one Cavill cherishes.
Despite approving The Witcher’s seven-season plan earlier, Cavill had made it clear in interviews that there was a catch. He indicated he would only stay on board “as long as we can keep presenting beautiful narratives that honor Sapkowski’s work.”
Liam Hemsworth, best known for playing Gale Hawthorne in “The Hunger Games” film series, will take over the role of The Witcher. He’ll play Geralt of Rivia in season 4 and, hopefully, a season 5, which will mark the end of the series.
The Witcher will be released on Netflix in two parts, with the first five episodes set to release on June 29. The next three will then be released on July 27.
Netflix’s official plot summary of Season 3
“As monarchs, mages and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it.” “Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.”
