In the sixth episode of The Last of Us TV series, fans noticed a subtle element that foreshadows what will happen to Ellie in the future. During a conversation with Joel, Ellie asks him what he would do if he could do anything after a cure is discovered.
Joel then reveals that he would find or build an old farm and set up a ranch to raise sheep, which are peaceful and obedient. This is precisely what Ellie does in The Last of Us Part II, after giving up her quest for revenge and settling on a farm with Dina and their child.
However, Ellie’s PTSD prevents her from maintaining this peaceful life. The Last of Us Part II storyline focuses on the romance between Ellie and Dina, which will likely continue in the second season of the TV series if it follows the game’s plot.
Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie, recently spoke to GQ about what to expect in the upcoming season, including the portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters. Ramsey acknowledged that some viewers might choose not to watch the show due to its inclusion of gay characters.
“I’m not particularly anxious about it. I know people will think what they want to think. But they’re gonna have to get used to it. If you don’t want to watch the show because it has gay storylines, because it has a trans character, that’s on you, and you’re missing out. It isn’t gonna make me afraid. I think that comes from a place of defiance.”
During a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, the Game of Thrones actress also shared her concerns about the character of Joel, portrayed by Pedro Pascal, who meets a tragic fate early on in the second part of the game, and the impact it may have on the show’s future.
“Like I’m nervous about because I know what happens in the second game and I’m nervous about being potentially without Pedro for a while. It’s gonna be really sad.”
