The upcoming HBO series, The Idol, featuring Lily-Rose Depp and Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, has just released a new trailer.
Created by Sam Levinson, the same mastermind behind the provocative series Euphoria, The Idol promises to be another s**ually charged television experience. The show is set to debut in the US and the UK this summer, with Sky recently announcing it will stream in June.
The Idol Trailer
The Idol follows the story of Jocelyn, played by Depp, a pop star who experienced a nervous breakdown during her last tour. Jocelyn is determined to reclaim her title as America’s se*iest and most excellent pop star.
Her love interest is Tedros, portrayed by The Weeknd, a nightclub impresario with a questionable past. The official synopsis for the show asks whether Jocelyn’s romantic awakening will lead her to new heights or the darkest depths of her soul.
The rest of the cast includes Troye Sivan, Dan Levy, Eli Roth, Hari Nef, Rachel Sennott, Ramsey, Suzanna Son, and Hank Azaria. However, the production recently made headlines for the wrong reasons when Rolling Stone published an article that exposed the toxic and problematic nature of the filming.
Despite this, The Idol was announced as part of the official program at the Cannes Film Festival. Euphoria, Levinson’s previous series, has been critically acclaimed, and its lead actress Zendaya has won two Emmys and a Golden Globe for her portrayal of drug-addicted teenager Rue.
With the announcement that The Idol will stream on HBO on June 4, fans eagerly await its release. The trailer hints at a show exploring the complexities of fame, relationships, and the darker side of pop culture.
