One of the top sitcoms to appear on television in recent years is Friends. It is tough to imagine that any of the Friend’s main characters have never seen the program they starred in and which launched their careers. Matthew Perry, the actor who portrayed Chandler Bing on the NBC series, was one of the six friends who admitted to never watching Friends. Perry has a good reason behind it.
Matthew Perry discussed his reasons for not watching Friends in a recent interview with CBC. The actor in the comedy has admitted to struggling with addiction while filming the episode, and it turns out that his issue prevented him from watching the series again.

I was taking 55 Vicodin a day. I was 128 pounds; I was on Friends, being watched by 30 million people, and that’s why l can’t watch the show because I was brutally skinny,” Perry said.
Furthermore, Perry said that he could determine what chemical he was facing off against based on how he appeared in each episode. Though he hasn’t watched it yet, he wants to, so he’s happy the program is still well-liked and being presented to a new generation of fans.
“I did not watched the show, and have not watched the show, because I could go, drinking and substances again and again, I could tell season by season by how I looked. That’s why I don’t wanna watch it, because that’s what I see.”
Though Perry said he would start watching the show, “I will start watching it because it’s been fantastic to see it touch the hearts of various generations.”
Perry discussed substance misuse in his memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. He spoke of his life’s most dramatic moment. He acknowledges that if he had continued his drug abuse in the same manner, he would have likely died.
