Sherlock Holmes 3 Is ‘A Priority’ for Robert Downey Jr, Says Susan Downey.
Sherlock Holmes, the famous detective Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created, has become legendary in pop culture. Since his introduction in 1887, there have been countless adaptations of this iconic figure in both film and television.
One of the most famous and intriguing adaptations came from the creative mind of Guy Ritchie, who directed two films in 2009 and 2011, titled Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes – A Game of Shadows. These films saw Robert Downey Jr. take on the role of the brilliant British detective to great acclaim.
Due to the immense success of the previous films, it was almost immediately decided that a third installment would be made. Warner Bros and the production team planned for a release in 2020 once Robert Downey Jr. had completed his prior commitments.
Unfortunately, the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic put a halt to these plans. While the film has not been officially canceled, it still awaits a release date. Dexter Fletcher, who was helmed for the direction of the third film, was himself not sure about the development of the film, “It’s not currently in development, and doesn’t know where [Downey Jr.’s] appetite for it is.”
Recently, producer and Robert Downey Jr.’s wife, Susan Downey, provided further insight into the project during an interview with Unwrapped. She revealed that the film is still a priority for the company and Robert Downey Jr. and that they are waiting for the right people and time to make it happen.
During a lunch meeting with Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey discussed the film’s progress, saying, “So yes, it is in the hopper. We’re going to do it when it’s right, with the right people, but it is a priority for the company and a priority for Robert.”
