Scarlett Johansson played a significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appearing as Black Widow in Iron Man 2 in 2010. However, she departed the role twice. The first time was when her character perished while selflessly obtaining the Soul Stone for the Avengers to defeat Thanos in Avengers: Endgame.
Later, she reprised her role in the much-anticipated 2021 Black Widow film, which explored the character’s past through a prequel storyline. This film also introduced Yelena Belova, who could potentially take over as the next Black Widow in the MCU.
Despite rumors of a possible return, Johansson clarified on The Goop Podcast, Speaking with fellow MCU co-star Gwyneth Paltrow that she had officially finished her work with Marvel.

Johansson expressed satisfaction with her unique experience of playing the same character repeatedly over a decade, stating that she had done everything she needed to do. “I’m done. Chapter is over. I did all that I had to do. Also, coming back and playing a character again and again, over a decade of time, is such a unique experience.”
