Universal published the first trailer for the upcoming movie Renfield, directed by Chris McKay, starring Nicolas Cage as Dracula. The first pictures reveal that the film would be a contemporary version of Bram Stoker’s tale in which Renfield, the Lord of Darkness’s serf and right hand, is determined to hunt souls for his Master in exchange for incredible abilities. The film has an R rating and contains violent, gory, and explicit material.

In this modern retelling of the Dracula story, Nicholas Hoult plays Renfield, a loyal servant to the narcissistic Dracula (Nicolas Cage). Renfield is forced to fulfill his Master’s wishes and carry out his orders, no matter how reprehensible they may be. After centuries of being in Dracula’s service, Renfield is eager to discover what life is like beyond being under the control of the Prince of Darkness. However, he struggles to break free from his codependent relationship with his Master.
Renfield, a film directed by Chris McKay and written by Ryan Ridley, is based on an original idea by Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead and Invincible. The movie features a star-studded cast, including Nicholas Hoult, Nicolas Cage, Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, and Adrian Martinez. It is set to be released in theaters on April 14, 2023.
