The sixth installment of ‘ Pirates of the Caribbean ‘, with Margot Robbie leading the cast, was announced in June 2020, but since then we had hardly had any news about the project. With Johnny Depp’s trial against Amber Heard drawing negative attention to the franchise, Disney decided to fire Depp and it was believed that ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’, with or without Depp, may have been scrapped. But now, its producer, Jerry Bruckheimer , confirms that plans for the sequel are still going ahead despite everything .
In an interview with The Sunday Times for the premiere of ‘ Top Gun: Maverick ‘, of which he is also a producer, Bruckheimer was asked if the sixth film was still in the works and this is what he replied: “Yes. We are talking to Margot Robbie. We’re developing two ‘Pirates’ scripts, one with her and one without her . ”
Margot Robbie is one of the many actresses who has risen in the film industry in recent years, especially after starring in commercially successful movies like, The Wolf of Wall Street, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, in the DC Extended Universe as Harley Quinn and soon like Barbie .
Bruckheimer doesn’t specify the exact reason why two different scripts are being written. When asked: Is there a chance Depp could return to the franchise? , Bruckheimer says “not right now” but adds, “The future hasn’t been decided yet” , thus opening the door to a return of Jack Sparrow to the saga .
Though Depp made it pretty clear even if Disney came to him with $300 Million he would not return to play Captain Jack Sparrow.
