Step aside, Spider-Man; new heroes are swinging into action. Sony has unveiled the initial preview for “Madame Web,” featuring Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney, a gripping suspense film set within Sony’s Marvel character universe.
Johnson assumes the pivotal role of Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may possess clairvoyant abilities, enabling her to peer into the future and the interconnected spider realm. In the trailer, she allies with young women, including Sweeney’s Julia Carpenter, who later adopts the Spider-Woman persona in the comics. Together, they strive to unravel Cassandra’s past and navigate a problematic present.
The ensemble cast boasts Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott, Celeste O’Connor, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, and Zosia Mamet.
Following the triumph of Sony Pictures Animation’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” the audience’s hunger for wall-crawling and web-swinging adventures remains evident. “Madame Web” marks the latest installment in Sony’s Marvel Character universe, following the successes of “Venom” (2018), “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (2021), and “Morbius” (2022), led by Tom Hardy and Jared Leto.
Sony’s upcoming lineup includes a third “Venom” installment scheduled for Nov. 8, 2024, and “Kraven the Hunter,” featuring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, set to hit theaters on Aug. 30, 2024. “Madame Web” notably represents Sony’s first comic book adaptation with a female lead.
Directed by S.J. Clarkson, known for her work on Marvel’s “Jessica Jones” and “The Defenders,” “Madame Web” is set to swing into theaters on Feb. 14, 2024. Check out the official trailer below.
