Johnny Depp took to Instagram to pay homage to Kori, a young fan of Jack Sparrow who tragically passed away. Depp, known for portraying the iconic character, has decided not to reprise the role in future films.
However, he has always expressed his willingness to bring joy to children by embodying Jack Sparrow. In December of last year, Depp fulfilled the wish of Kori, an 11-year-old boy suffering from a terminal illness called hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Kori’s dream was to meet the Captain of the Black Pearl, and Depp gladly organized a heartfelt video call where Kori dressed up as Jack Sparrow.
Sadly, Kori, who had undergone two unsuccessful transplants and was under palliative care, recently passed away—in honor of his young friend, Johnny Depp, shared a tribute on his Instagram story. The message expressed admiration for Kori’s courage, strength, and ability to find joy despite his circumstances. Depp referred to Kori as a warrior and conveyed his love and respect to Kori and his family, promising to meet again on the high seas.
Additionally, Depp sponsored a GoFundMe campaign to support Kori’s final journey—the campaign, authorized by Kori’s mother, aimed to provide a grand farewell for the Captain. Depp’s friend, Sian (Kuro), created the GoFundMe on behalf of Pixi, Kori’s mother. The post outlined several wishes for the farewell event, including the Captain wearing his pirate attire, a glass carriage and black horses to transport him, and a stone monument with a pirate ship and Whitby Abbey, along with Kori’s image.
