Hugh Jackman Denies Using Steroids to Play Wolverine. Jackman said that he followed a natural approach to achieve his physique for his role as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise. Jackman, who made his debut as the Marvel character in the 2000 film, spoke about his approach in an interview on CNN and HBO Max’s Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?
Jackman emphasized that he didn’t use any performance-enhancing drugs or shortcuts to build his body for the role but instead relied on a combination of weight training, cardio, and a strict diet. He revealed that the natural approach helped him to maintain his health and fitness for the duration of the film franchise.
During the interview, Wallace brought up Jackman’s multiple portrayals of the character and questioned whether he had used performance-enhancing drugs to achieve his physique. He asked, “Over the years, people have wondered, did he juice? Did he take steroids?”
“No. I love my job. And I love Wolverine,” Jackman said. “I got to be careful what I say here, but I had been told anecdotally what the side effects are of that. And I was like, ‘I don’t love it that much.’ So, no, I just did it the old-school way.”
Hugh Jackman continued by saying, “So no, I just did it the old-school way. And I tell you, I’ve eaten more chickens — I’m so sorry to all the vegans and vegetarians and to the chickens of the world. Literally, the karma is not good for me. If the deity has anything related to chickens, I’m in trouble.”
Hugh Jackman will return as Wolverine
Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, who plays the titular character Deadpool, announced in September that Jackman would return to play Wolverine opposite Reynolds’ super-healing mercenary. Deadpool 3 is set to premiere on November 8, 2024, as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Six.
