There have been many negative responses to the idea of a Black actor playing the fictitious character since the debut of The Little Mermaid Trailer. In the animated 1989 film, Ariel was shown as White. In the remake of the film, Halle Bailey will be playing the role of Ariel.
People have criticized Halle Bailey since she was announced as the live-action version of Ariel in The Little Mermaid which was first revealed in 2019. Even the trailer generated so many debates that it currently has 1.6 million dislikes on YouTube.
Even Halle Berry doesn’t seem to have found peace for the upcoming Disney live-action The Little Mermaid, which debuts on May 24, 2023.
Halle Berry appears to have been mistaken by several Twitter users for 22-year-old Halle Bailey.
The actress made a joke about the situation by retweeting and replying to the user, One of the users even deleted the tweet afterward.
