Christian Bale is one of the most adored and admired performers in the world of Cinema. Currently, he is on a press tour for David O. Russell’s movie “Amsterdam,” and he isn’t hesitant to use the occasion to compliment another Hollywood celebrity. He recently revealed to GQ in a lighthearted and humorous manner that Leonardo DiCaprio had previously turned down many of the roles he performs.
“When someone gets any role, it’s only because he has already said no to it first, It doesn’t matter what people tell you. It doesn’t matter how good of friends you are with the directors. All the people I’ve worked with repeatedly offered every single one of those roles to him first.”
DiCaprio expressly declined the role of Patrick Bateman in the 2000 film American Psycho, One of the most iconic roles of Christian Bale. Although Mary Harron risked losing her job to support the casting of Christian Bale, the movie’s production team insisted on having Leonardo DiCaprio play the lead part at all costs.
Christian Bale is a big fan of Leonardo DiCaprio’s works and praised him by saying:
“So thank you, Leo, because he can choose everything he does. And good for him; he’s phenomenal.
Bale said he never took it personally when the casting directors passed over him in favor of Leonardo DiCaprio despite knowing that the latter appears to take precedence for parts he could aspire to.
Do you know how thankful I am to get whatever damn thing I do? I mean, I can’t do what he does. And he does it beautifully. But I think almost everyone his age in Hollywood owes their careers to the roles he has decided not to do
