In a recent interview discussing the upcoming film Extraction 2, Chris Hemsworth unintentionally revealed some potentially discouraging news about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Despite becoming a prominent figure in pop culture, Hemsworth’s journey in the film industry began relatively recently with his debut in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek in 2009. However, before his breakthrough, he honed his artistic skills through various television projects such as Guinevere Jones (2002), The Saddle Club (2003), and Home and Away (2004-2007), which all contributed to his growth as a well-rounded artist.
Following these early endeavors, Hemsworth ventured into films like Ca$h (2010) before stunning audiences with his unexpected portrayal of Thor in 2011, marking his entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This role remains part of Kevin Feige’s grand cinematic and serial plan, with Hemsworth’s most recent appearance observed in Thor: Love and Thunder (2022).
Unfortunately, the future of Hemsworth’s involvement in the MCU seems doubtful. For some time now, the actor has expressed his reservations about continuing to portray the god of Thunder, even though he mentioned that he would be willing to stay if Marvel desires him to do so.
However, his recent statements in an interview with Total Film Magazine regarding his latest film, Extraction 2 (2023), suggest further doubts about his return to the Marvel universe.
Hemsworth acknowledged his immense challenges while filming Extraction 2, describing it as the most challenging endeavor ever. He expressed that after each take, there is an unprecedented exhaustion that leaves everyone breathless. Nonetheless, he found the experience immensely rewarding and expressed his desire to incorporate that style into a potential future Marvel project, should he ever make another one.
