In an interview with Vogue, Bella Ramsey hinted that the upcoming finale of The Last of Us TV series would leave fans divided, just like the ending of the original game.
Bella Ramsey talks about The Last of Us Ending
“It was, exhausting,” Ramsey said, “but those were some of my favourite days on set. That sounds really masochistic, but it’s the scenes that break me that I love the most, in a way.” As for what she thinks people will make of the series finale in March? “It’s going to divide people massively – massively.”
Based on the popular game from Naughty Dog, The Last of Us has only two episodes left, and fans who have played the game know that many things have yet to happen. [Heavy Spoilers]
For those unfamiliar with the game’s story, the first part of The Last of Us ends with Joel and Ellie finding a hospital run by the Lights. Doctors plan to use Ellie’s immunity to create a vaccine that could protect people from the cordyceps fungus.
However, Joel discovers that Ellie will die if the doctors proceed with the vaccine, so he kills everyone in the hospital and saves Ellie. When Ellie wakes up, Joel lies, telling her that the doctors cannot create a vaccine for her.
This decision by Joel to lie to Ellie about what happened is what divides fans even after nearly a decade since the game’s launch. Some argue that Joel should have told Ellie the truth and let her decide, while others believe he was right to save Ellie and keep the fact from her.
Ramsey, who plays the role of Ellie in the TV series, believes the ending will be just as divisive as the games. The Last of Us TV series has been well-received by both fans of the game and critics, and its success has led to the production of a second season.
