In 2023, the Marvel Cinematic Universe begins Phase 5 with three sequel films. These 2023 Marvel movies will feature some of the franchise’s most popular characters and are expected to lay the foundation for “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

The Ant-Man franchise continues in 2023 with “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” releasing on February 17. As the MCU’s first film in Phase 5, “Ant-Man 3,” will significantly impact the franchise. The film follows Ant-Man, Wasp, and the main characters as they become trapped in the Quantum Realm, where they encounter Kang, the Conqueror. It’s revealed that Janet van Dyne has prior knowledge of Kang from her time spent in the realm. Additionally, merchandise confirms that MODOK will appear in the movie at some point.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

The Guardians of the Galaxy are back for one final mission in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” set to release on May 5, 2023. Written and directed by James Gunn, the sequel comes nearly six years after the team’s last solo film. Previously teased by Marvel, Adam Warlock will make his debut in the movie. Although this film marks the end of Gunn’s tenure with Marvel, it will lay the foundation for future cosmic adventures.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is slated for a theatrical release on June 2, 2023. The sequel to “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” stars Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Spider-Gwen, and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker. The film follows Miles, Spider-Gwen, and Peter as they embark on a multiverse adventure, with a primary setting in Gwen Stacy’s universe, compared to Miles’ universe in the first film.

The Marvels

“The Marvels” features Brie Larson as Captain Marvel four years after her introduction in the “Captain Marvel” film. The movie also stars Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. The events of “The Marvels” were directly set up through the post-credits scene of episode 6 of “Ms. Marvel.” In this scene, Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel switch places through Kamala’s mysterious bangle, leading to a reunion between Carol and Monica. The connection between Carol and Kamala will play a role in this reunion. The Marvels is slated for a theatrical release on July 28, 2023.

Kraven the Hunter

“Kraven the Hunter,” the final Marvel film with a 2023 release date, is set for release by Sony on October 6, 2023. The movie features Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Sergei Kravinoff, the titular big game hunter. The cast includes Russell Crowe as Kraven’s father, Fred Hechinger as Chameleon, Ariana DeBose as Calypso, and Christopher Abbott as The Foreigner. “Kraven the Hunter” is the third Spider-Man villain to get a standalone movie in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, following “Venom” and “Morbius.”
