In the 10 seasons that Friends lasted, many guest stars participated in its plot. They include Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Bruce Willis, Danny Devito, Anna Faris, Christina Applegate, Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Alec Baldwin, Susan Sarandon, Ben Stiller, and many more. But one of the cameos by this actor turned out to be the worst one.
Friends guest Star Admits to Being Rude to his Co-stars on set
Fisher Stevens, the famous American actor, producer, and director who played Marvin Gerard in the NBC crime drama The Blacklist. In an interview with PeopleTV’s Couch Surfing conducted with the actor 25 years after his cameo on the series, Fisher Stevens apologized to the entire cast and crew of the sitcom Friends for the nasty attitude.
Stevens guest starred in the first season episode “The One With The Boobies” as Phoebe Buffay’s (played by Lisa Kudrow) boyfriend, a psychiatrist, who causes friction with the group. Their relationship was short-lived and he only appeared in that episode.
The reason behind the bad behavior of Fisher Stevens
Fisher Stevens admits to being unaware of the show “Friends” and unfamiliar with sitcoms at the time of his guest appearance. He acknowledges not understanding sitcoms do this and apologizes. He regrets his rudeness towards the show’s writers after learning that the script had been rewritten.
I was kind of an a**hole, I have to admit. ‘What do you mean? So I have to relearn lines that you’ve written that are worse than what you’d originally written?’ Yeah, I was a d**k. I’ve rarely seen any of those people on Friends again, but I’m sure if you asked them about me, they would go, ‘What a New York snob.
Stevens realized his mistake and apologized to Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, and Matt LeBlanc. “Yeah, I’m sorry guys. I’m sorry I was a d— to you all,” he says. “I apologize. I was bad, I was wrong.”
Jennifer Aniston also spoke about Fisher Steven’s bad behavior
The actress who played Rachel Green on Friends told Howard Stern that a guest star on the show had an attitude as if they were superior to the show, which did not sit well with her. Though Jennifer Aniston did not name who this star was, Fisher Stevens much later admitted to his wrongdoings.
I remember when we were doing a network run-through, the network and the producers would just laugh. And this person would be like, ‘Listen to them, just laughing at their own jokes. So stupid, not even funny.’ It was just like, ‘What are you doing here? Your attitude, this is not what we’re all about. This is a wonderful, warm place to be, and you’re coming into our home and just s**t on it.’”
