Jeanne du Barry, a new movie by Maïwenn, has wrapped up filming. The title refers to the courtesan who, following Madame de Pompadour, became King Louis XV’s lover at the court of Versailles.
The transalpine sovereign will be interpreted by none other than Johnny Depp. The latter has recently appeared online in a well-known photo of him dressed in royal robes.
Johnny Depp marked his comeback in 2020 when he starred as the lead in Andrew Levitas’ The Minamata case, a film in which he portrays the renowned photographer William Eugene Smith.
The film will be “freely inspired” by the courtesan’s life, born in 1743 as the unlawful daughter of a needy seamstress. Who continued to rise to the court of the sovereign of France until she became his last official mistress and moved to Versailles, where her arrival scandalized the court. The director will play the king’s mistress in the movie.
Maïwenn’s most ambitious project to date is Jeanne du Barry. The documentary-style film Polisse won the 2011 Cannes Jury award. It starred Joeystarr, Karin Viard, Marina Fos, and Nicolas Duvauchelle, among others.
Along with Vincent Cassel, Emmanuelle Bercot, Louis Garrel, and Isild Le Besco, she directed the 2015 drama, My King. Bercot won the Best Actress prize at Cannes in 2015, thanks to the movie.
