Matthew Perry’s demise, occurring on October 28, resulted from the ‘acute effects of ketamine,’ according to the findings of his autopsy. The renowned ‘Friends’ actor had previously delved into his encounters with the drug in his memoir, ‘Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir.’
The shocking news of Perry’s death revealed that he drowned in a bathtub at his residence. The autopsy report disclosed that ketamine, a substance commonly utilized for treating anxiety and depression, played a pivotal role in the actor’s demise.
In his 2022 memoir, Perry unveiled his experiences with ketamine infusion therapy, a daily ritual at a Swiss rehab clinic during the pandemic, shortly after his engagement to Molly Hurwitz. Describing ketamine as a street drug from the 1980s now synthetically used for pain relief and addressing depression, Perry likened it to a ‘giant exhale’ with his name figuratively inscribed on it.
Despite acknowledging the drug’s impact, Perry candidly admitted feeling as though he was on the brink of death during therapy, expressing a peculiar attraction to the novelty of the experience. He underscored his ambivalence, stating, “Taking K is like being hit in the head with a giant happy shovel. But the hangover was rough and outweighed the shovel. Ketamine was not for me.”
Matthew Perry, aged 54, was found lifeless in a jacuzzi at his residence. The absence of drugs at the scene was duly noted. His funeral service transpired on November 3 at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in LA, near Warner Bros Studios. Attended by the entire lead cast of ‘Friends,’ including Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, the event paid tribute to the iconic actor’s legacy.
