John Wick 4 has broken an impressive box office record for the Keanu Reeves franchise, marking the final chapter of the action-packed saga directed by Chad Stahelski.
The film has received widespread critical acclaim with a remarkable 94% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has recently dominated the global box office.
This achievement is even more remarkable because John Wick 4 is the first installment in the franchise to surpass $400 million in revenue. This is an extraordinary accomplishment, particularly considering that the film had a production budget of $100 million.
To put this into perspective, the previous film in the series, John Wick 3 – Parabellum, grossed $327 million against a budget of $40 million in 2019. The first film, released in 2014, earned $75 million at the global box office against a budget of $30 million.
The second chapter of the franchise, released in 2017, had the same budget but collected “only” $171 million. As a result, the total revenue of the John Wick franchise has now reached a massive $924 million.
The success of John Wick 4 has raised the possibility of a fifth installment being produced, given its enormous success. Director Chad Stahelski, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, expressed his openness to continuing the franchise but emphasized the need to take some time to figure out the next steps. Whether or not a new chapter will be added to the John Wick story remains to be seen.
But John Wick can witness something similar to John Wick; It’s Prequel, The Continental, which will be available on the streaming platform in September.
The series serves as a prequel to the films and explores the origins of the hotel-for-assassins centerpiece through the eyes of a young Winston Scott, played by Colin Woodell, who takes on the role originally portrayed by Ian McShane in the movies. Ayomide Adegun represents a young Charon, initially played by the late Lance Riddick.
