After Steve Rogers passed on the shield to Sam Wilson in Avengers: Endgame, Marvel fans have been eagerly anticipating the possibility of Chris Evans’ return as Captain America.
In an interview with Good Morning America, the actor expressed his openness to reprising the role. However, he emphasized that it must be for the “right reasons” and at the “right time.”
Evans also acknowledged that Anthony Mackie is portraying Captain America and that there are still plenty of stories to tell in the Marvel universe.
“To come back, it would have to be for the right reasons, right timing. It feels a little too soon. Anthony Mackie is Captain America right now. There are other stories to tell. For now, we ended on such a good note. I would be too worried about tarnishing.”
While promoting his new film Ghosted, which is set to release on April 21 on Apple TV+, Evans also teased that the movie would feature cameos from some of his Marvel colleagues. Evans expressed gratitude for their willingness to participate but noted that he hates asking people to make cameo appearances.
Chris Evans said, “There are some cameos [in ‘Ghosted’]. That’s right. Can we give that away? I guess. Yeah, we had some old Marvel buddies back, and I hate asking people for cameos. It’s the worst.”
Despite his excitement about the upcoming film, Evans admitted that he is still protective of the Captain America character and is wary of doing anything that might tarnish the positive note on which Steve Rogers’ story ended.
Will Chris Evans Return as Captain America: New World Order or in Avengers 5 or 6?
If Evans were to return as Captain America, it would likely be in a significant role rather than a brief cameo. Many fans speculate that his return could occur in one of the following two Avengers films. Given Evans’ respect for his character’s legacy, his return to the Marvel universe would be well-deserved and in line with the goals of the Multiverse Saga.
