Unlike in most cases where Netflix takes weeks or months to announce the renewal of its titles, The Night Agent season 2 received a prompt confirmation due to its strong viewership.
The Night Agent has become one of Netflix’s most-watched shows of all time in just three weeks since its debut. The political thriller focuses on a low-level FBI worker who receives a distressing call that unveils a larger conspiracy.
According to TheWrap, The Night Agent has reached another milestone and is now among Netflix’s Top 10 English-language TV shows just three weeks after its debut.
The show, led by Gabriel Basso and created by veteran TV writer Shawn Ryan, has received 515.57 million hours viewed and over 62 million total views since its premiere on March 23. The political thriller took the ninth spot on the list.
It’s worth noting that Netflix’s most-watched list is cut off 28 days after the premiere of a movie or show. Stranger Things season 4 is at the top of the list, followed by Wednesday and Dahmer: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Bridgerton for season 1 and season 2 follows these shows, and then The Witcher.
The Night Agent knocked off Ginny & Georgia from the list and came close to knocking off Inventing Anna, which took the tenth spot. The Night Agent has had a strong start for a genre that has rarely resulted in glowing recommendations or record-breaking success in recent years.
The fact that critics are generally optimistic about The Night Agent has contributed to its speedy renewal. This is unusual as critics are usually lukewarm or outright negative on recent streaming political thrillers like The Recruit. The Night Agent has nine more days to increase success on the list.
