A Romanian court has decided to transfer Andrew Tate, aka Top G, a social media personality, and his co-defendants to house arrest after overturning a prosecutor’s request to keep them in police custody until late April.
Tate and his brother, Tristan Tate, and two Romanian women have been detained by police since December 29, 2022, on suspicion of human tr*fficking, r*pe, and forming a criminal gang to exploit women s*xually; the Tate brothers have denied all allegations.

Tate’s lawyer, Eugen Constantin Vidineac, informed Reuters that the appeal court in Bucharest accepted their appeal and changed the measure to home arrest for all defendants.
However, the court rejected the Tate brothers’ request for bail earlier this week. The judge’s previous rulings stated that the Tate brothers were a flight risk and that their release could compromise the investigation.
“All four are getting out tonight,” said Ramona Bolla, a spokesperson for Romania’s DIICOT anti-organized crime unit. “The decision is final, the investigation continues.”
Andrew Tate, an online influencer and self-proclaimed misogynist who has amassed a following of millions of fans, particularly among young men drawn to his hyper-masculine image, has been based primarily in Romania since 2017.
Prosecutors have accused the Tate brothers of recruiting their alleged victims by deceiving them into believing they wanted a relationship or marriage. The victims were coerced into producing p*rnographic content for social media sites that generated significant financial gain.
The suspects have until the end of June to be sent to trial, and charges have already been filed against them. However, the investigation is still ongoing, and it is uncertain whether the recent ruling will expedite the process.
