Deadline recently reported that Jenna Ortega is currently in negotiations to play the lead role in Beetlejuice 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the popular 1988 film directed by Tim Burton.
The production team plans to begin shooting in London between the end of May and the beginning of June. Ortega, who has become a prominent figure thanks to her role as Wednesday in the TV series adaptation of Burton’s The Addams Family, is expected to play the daughter of Lydia, Winona Ryder’s character from the original film.
Additionally, there are rumors that Michael Keaton and Ryder will reprise their roles, with Burton directing again. Fans have eagerly awaited a follow-up to the iconic film, and with the news of Ortega’s potential involvement, excitement for Beetlejuice 2 is at an all-time high.
The original movie starred Keaton and Ryder alongside Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, and Catherine O’Hara, grossed $80 million on a $15 million budget, and won the Academy Award for Best Makeup in 1989. Keaton confirmed in 2013 that discussions for a sequel were underway, with Burton expressing his desire to work with the actor again and lamenting the absence of the titular character in his life.
