James Cameron relates to Marvel Villain Thanos. James Cameron is a renowned Canadian director, screenwriter, film producer, and editor who is considered one of the most influential and revered filmmakers in modern cinema history.
For several years now, the filmmaker has been part of the Disney stable since the acquisition of Fox by the Mickey Mouse house. With each blockbuster Cameron releases, he manages to captivate the audience remarkably convincingly, attracting millions of people to watch his creations. Avatar: The Way of Water, his recent release, although it did not surpass his previous film released in 2009, has still conquered box offices worldwide and achieved immense economic success.
However, the relationship between James Cameron and the American company has been quite challenging. As he has emphasized in several interviews, the filmmaker has never been a fan of Marvel’s works.
James Cameron relates to Marvel Villain Thanos
Interestingly, in a recent interview with Time, Cameron revealed that he shares the same philosophy as a well-known character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the formidable Thanos, played by Josh Brolin.
Thanos was the primary antagonist in the first three phases of the MCU and revealed his plan in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) to kill half of the world’s population so that the planet’s resources would be enough for everyone.
‘I can relate to Thanos,’ Cameron continued, ‘I thought he had a pretty viable answer. The problem is nobody is going to put up their hand to volunteer to be the half that has to go.
Cameron’s anomalous position regarding Thanos is quite intriguing, but it is clear that in normal circumstances, nobody would want to help others and would only think of themselves, a decidedly selfish philosophy. Nonetheless, Cameron’s perspective has its own reasoning, at least in theory.
